Heart Practice Test

A practice test has been put online and can be accessed at
http://www.docfleetwood.net/anatomy/studyguides/heartpracticetest.htm

The test is only for practice, although you must put in your name. Please use your real name when you take it so I can see how you are doing. You may take it multiple times.

As a practice test, it does not include all information that may be asked on the actual test. It should, however, be a good indicator the types of questions you will see and the bulk of the content.

Have fun and study, study, study :-)

Forensics Test 4/2/08

There will be a test on Wednesday, April 2, 2008. The test will be on all material covered in class with specific attention to the material from the “product tampering” case study, mass spectrometry, fingerprinting, counterfeit money, and sketch artistry.

Anatomy Test Tuesday 4/1/08

Test on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 on all material covered in class during the year. The test will specifically get in depth on the cardiovascular system and ‘pregnancy and human development’. It will consist of material covered in class and items you were instructed to read and study from the book or provided handouts. There will also be questions from the in class presentations on digestive disorders. There is a practice test on my anatomy page to give a sampling of questions.

Plan B 3.0 Reading

Read up to page 47 in the book Plan B 3.0. After each chapter you should write down the key ideas and a couple of examples/evidence. Do not get bogged down in each examples details but be sure to get the big idea and have be able to make a supported argument.

We will be reading a chapter per week, so if you want to get ahead, feel free :-)

Biology Test Tuesday 4/1/08

There will be a test on Tuesday, April 1, 2008. This is right after spring break. The test will be on the material from the ‘Inside the Cell’ book as well as material covered in class. There will be a practice test added to my biology page during break.

Counterfeit Money

Individually, you should complete the correct answers to the Money Facts sheet.

As a group, you should create a ‘new’ $5 bill using the paper I gave you in class. You can see what it looks like at this site: http://www.moneyfactory.gov/newmoney/main.cfm/currency/history

You should label the bill with letters or numbers and create a key. These labels should point out the security and ‘additional’ features of the bill that are used to prevent counterfeiting.

On the paper with the key, you must also explain how the ‘money pen’ that store clerks use to check for counterfeit money works. What it looks like if the paper is real or counterfeit and why it looks that way.

Electrical Activity of Heart and Electrocardiograms

Read the following pages in the textbook: pages 671(start with sequence of excitation)-675 (up to mechanical events)

In the end, you should know the pathway of the electrical signal through the heart and how to read an ECG.  You should be able to explain what is occurring in the heart during the PQRST waves on the ECG.

Cell Membrane Project

Create a 3-dimensional model of a section of the cell membrane. (examples shown in class)  This model should include all the proteins we discussed in class (non-gated, gated, carrier, pump, glycoproteins) as well as an example of an item that passes through that protein, if applicable. (i.e. sodium, alcohol, etc…)  You may make the model out of the material of your choosing (but not food items).

Due:  Tuesday 3/18/08

Inside the Cell Reading

Read the ‘Inside the Cell’ booklet given in class.  You should answer the ‘Got It’ questions at the end of each chapter.  You should also create a table of cellular organelles and their function(s).  Be sure you know the order of the stages of mitosis and what happens at each stage.  A free online version of the book can be found at http://publications.nigms.nih.gov/insidethecell/

Test on this material:  Tuesday, April 1, 2008
